Pensions for Divorced People Form CA10

If divorced and not receiving full State Pension you may be able to use your former spouse's contribution record.Leaflet GL13 "Seperated or Divorced?" gives more details. This is complicated - seek advice.

State pensions for widow's and widowers.

Widows under 60 may be entitled to the State Pension on husbands contributions until retirement age.

Widower: as above but uses wife's contributions

Leaflet NP45 "A Guide to Bereavement Benefits" gives more details.

Contributions

A person must pay 50 weekly contributions per year (this is from 1975).

You must have paid for 44 years (woman) with 39 qualifying years, or 49 years (man) with 44 qualifying years.

Home Responsibilites Protection (HRP): Form CF411

This protects the contributions record if the person is caring for a child or a sick or disabled person. This is complicated seek advice.

Going into Hospital (2003) Form GL12

You will receive your full State Pension for 52 weeks. After 52 weeks your pension is reduced to £15:50 a week (if single).

If husband/wife is at home your pension is reduced to £46:45 but you only get £15:50 and your husband/wife gets the rest.

Additonal Pension SRPS. 1978 - 2002: Form NP46

This is based on earnings per week (£77 - £595) and works on providing a pension on 25% of weekly earnings( 25% of £77-£595).

Second State Pension (SP2) 2002 -

Again gives pension on earnings but is more generous than SERPS.

Contracting Out of SP2

By joining occupational scheme, personal pension or stakeholder pension.

Working on 65 (women) and 70 (men)

Income Related (Means tested) Benefits

Income Support. Now called Minimum Income Guarantee (MIG) and after October will be called Pension Credit.

Pension Credit - Income and Capital Related Benefit

Pension Credit guarantees everyone aged 60 or over and income of at least (Guarantee Credit):

£119.05 from April 2007 if single
£181.70 from April 2007 if you have a partner

Peopel of 65+ who have made modest arragnements for their retirement may also be rewarded by up to (Savings Credit):

£19.05 from April 2007 if single
£25.26 from April 2007 if you have a partner

The first figue is called the Guarantee Credit and the second figure is called the Savings Credit. Both figures added together give a persons Pension Credit entitlement.

Extra money could be due if Attendance Allowance or Disability Living Allowance is being paid.

You will qualify if you are of pensionable age or suffer from a disability and have a net income of less than £200 per week.

Council Tax Benefit

This is help with paying your Council Tax. After October people will get increased benefit for age group 60+. Contact the Benefits Section of the Council.

Attendance Allowance is for people aged 65 or over who need help with personal care.

Diasbilty Living Allowance is for those people aged under 65 who need help with personal care and/or mobility needs.

Both benefits are purely health related adn take no accoutn of the person's financial cirucmstances.
